Connecting Care to Community

People gathered around an informational booth inside a shopping center.

On June 13-14, Footscray aged care connected with members of their local community at Sunshine Plaza.

Over the two days, employees spoke to members of the public who were interested in the beautiful service offering at Footscray Aged Care.

Staff conversed in both Vietnamese and English, as they do at the home, while residents also dropped in to talk and play games with other seniors at the shopping centre.

Our caring employees worked tirelessly to promote Footscray Aged Care and to hand out welcome bags, handcrafted by the resident craft group. As well as providing information about the home, the comprehensive lifestyle and personalised care program.

A special individual who helped with the smooth running of the stall was Barry.

Barry has volunteered at Footscray Aged Care for over 28 years and he often jokes that his long service leave is due soon.

Each Wednesday and Friday, Barry helps and interacts with residents and he is often seen making greeting cards for our residents, remembering their birthdays, calling the always-popular bingo, joining them at church services and helping on outings.

A mad Essendon supporter, he is also found entertaining residents with fascinating stories about football and cricket.

Thanks to Barry, all our employees and residents who made it along to Sunshine Plaza, spreading the Royal Freemasons story!
