John Kelly has been part of Royal Freemasons Springtime community for three years, moving there shortly after his wife became a resident.
John already knew the staff and residents at Springtime well, having been a community visitor there for ten years through his membership with the Doutta Galla Lodge and Essendon Daylight Lodge.
John has never regretted his decision to move to Springtime. “If people are looking to move into aged care, I don’t think you’d find a better place,” he says. “The staff here are very helpful, and not just the caring staff but also the ancillary staff are all wonderful people. If you’re thinking about aged care, consider Royal Freemasons… you’ll be very, very happy. “
John continues to live his life of service in Springtime by representing the home on Royal Freemasons’ Consumer Advisory Committee and sharing his experiences as a resident so we can better serve the people in our care.
Being a seasoned singer and the former Choir Master at Doutta Galla Lodge, John also loves to share his musical gift by occasionally singing a tune to the residents. His favourite song is If I can help somebody.
“Freemasonry has been looking after aged people for over 150 years. It’s their philosophy of care and benevolence that I really go for,” says John. “It’s always been my philosophy to help where I can. My advice for a long and happy life is to look to help others where you can because we’re not just here for ourselves — we’ve got family, we’ve got friends — and you can make new friends by being positive to those people and giving what you can to help.”
