Sharing the Dream: The Commonwealth Games come to Coppin Centre 2018
Dec 04, 2018
A group of Coppin Centre residents had a crazy idea ... a handmade Queen’s Baton and stand were made by the Coppin Centre Craft Group and six residents signed up for their very own Queen’s Baton Relay to celebrate the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
The relay commenced at the bus shelter in Moubray House as the lead runner carried the torch. A crowd assembled as they travelled from Moubray House to Coppin Hall, through the long corridors. The cheerers, including Carers, visitors and residents were enthusiastic with excitement as the race continued.
The relay concluded at Coppin Hall with exhausted participants offered well-deserved refreshments!
Each torch relay participant was given a Gold Medal to acknowledge their efforts. Indeed, a testament that ‘85 is the new 65’. “Our minds are younger than our bodies feel!”, exclaimed one of our residents.
Coppin Centre residents feel proud, wearing wonderful smiles, simply because they have shared in an impressive accomplishment.
A big round of applause to Mrs Annetta Sinclair, Mr Peter Sinclair, Mr Keith Wilson, Mr Eddie Reid, Mrs Marion Cross and Ms Val Ireton for the inspiration.
