Royal Freemasons celebrated with Filipino-Australians from all over Victoria across the weekend in this year’s Philippine festival of music, arts and culture held at the Polish Syrena Community Centre in Rowville.

l Freemasons is a proudly multicultural organisation and events like these are a wonderful way to show our commitment to support and involve our community.

Attended by over 600 people, the day was a very fitting way to celebrate the famous Filipino love for family and friendship, food, culture and heritage. There were lots of stalls to wander around and look at – from community engagement, brokerage programs, aged care guide to clothing, real estate, travel, money transfer, Filipino dishes and all the offerings of Royal Freemasons.

Filipino cuisine was very evident and has always been a favourite part of the event. Its famous delicacies, the aroma and, of course, its taste is everywhere. Food is a very big part of the Filipino culture and the weekend was a fabulous showcase for all visitors.

Another aspect of Filipino culture is to bring gifts back to their loved-ones who were not able to come along. “Pasalubong” is the Filipino term for this practice and food is the best pasalubong to take home.

A grand prize round trip ticket to the Philippines concluded the event, won by a Filipina who travelled all the way from Gippsland to join the festival, ending a fabulous day.
